President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to meet representatives of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, or BASL, at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow to discuss the proposed changes to the retirement age of judges.
The meeting comes after the gazetting of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution Bill.
Under the proposed amendment, the retirement age of Supreme Court judges would be increased to 67, while the retirement age of Court of Appeal judges would be raised to 65.
However, the BASL has maintained that the proposed extension should not be pursued at this time.
BASL President Rajeev Amarasuriya and a delegation recently met with Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara to discuss the issue.
The BASL had also requested an opportunity to directly brief the President on its concerns.
