The 2026 General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) Advanced Level Examination begins today (10) and will continue until September 5 at 2,532 examination centres across the island.
A total of 372,310 candidates are scheduled to sit for this year’s examination. This includes 264,496 school candidates and 107,814 private candidates.
Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari has urged all candidates to arrive at their respective examination centres at least one hour before the scheduled commencement of each examination.
Candidates are strictly prohibited from bringing mobile phones, smartwatches, notes, Bluetooth devices, or any other electronic equipment into examination halls.
The Commissioner General also urged candidates to strictly follow examination rules and regulations and refrain from engaging in examination malpractice. She noted that in previous years, the results of a number of students had to be withheld due to examination-related misconduct.
Meanwhile, tuition classes conducted in preparation for the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination were suspended from midnight on August 4, in accordance with examination regulations.
