The National Transport Commission and the Sri Lanka Railway Department have announced that comprehensive transportation plans are in place to facilitate the return of people from their villages to cities following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations.

The National Transport Commission confirmed that a sufficient number of buses have been deployed to handle the passenger influx, ensuring that those who traveled to their hometowns for the festive season can return to urban areas smoothly. Regular bus services will continue as scheduled today (April 16) and tomorrow (April 17), providing uninterrupted public transportation.

In addition, the Railway Department has initiated a special train operation program aimed primarily at easing travel back to Colombo. This program will run over two days, on April 19 and 20, under a special schedule. The department stated that the additional train services will help accommodate the high number of commuters expected to return to the city, minimizing travel disruptions.

Authorities urge travelers to plan their journeys accordingly and adhere to safety protocols during the commute.
