Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Officers apprehended three Sri Lankan nationals this morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) with a substantial consignment of Kush and Hashish.
The suspects, who had arrived from Bangkok, were intercepted during a routine check as they attempted to clear customs. Upon inspection, officers discovered the narcotics cleverly concealed in packets of biscuits and chips stashed in their luggage.
A total of 1,616 grams of Kush and 1,762 grams of Hashish were seized during the operation. According to Sri Lanka Customs, the estimated street value of the drugs is close to Rs. 45 million.
The three individuals are currently in custody, and further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the smuggling operation and any potential links to international drug networks.
Sri Lanka Customs has reiterated its commitment to curbing the illegal drug trade and ensuring airport security remains uncompromised.
