Morning showers are also likely in the Western Province, and in the districts of Galle, Matara, Puttalam, and Batticaloa.
Fairly heavy rainfall, around 50mm, is anticipated in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces. Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert.
Authorities are urging the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning, which could occur during thundershowers.
The Meteorology Department has issued a weather advisory for sea areas surrounding the island over the next 24 hours. Showers are expected in the sea regions off the coast from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo. Other coastal areas may also experience showers or thundershowers, particularly during the evening or night.
Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, ranging from 25 to 35 kmph. While the seas around the island will generally remain slight to moderate, swell waves are forecast to rise between 2.0 to 2.5 meters in height in the sea areas from Kalutara to Hambantota via Galle.
Fisherfolk and naval communities are advised to be cautious, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers.
