The historic Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Temple will be temporarily closed to the public from 6 PM today (April 13) temple authorities announced.

The closure is to facilitate special rituals and preparations marking the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations. These traditional ceremonies are held annually to invoke blessings for the upcoming year.

The temple is scheduled to reopen for regular puja services tomorrow (April 14) at 1 PM, following the completion of the New Year rituals.

Pilgrims and devotees are advised to plan their visits accordingly.
