Massive Drug Bust in Tangalle: Over 100kg of Ice and Heroin Seized

The arrest was made during a special crime and drug prevention operation carried out in the Kudawella area of Tangalle, following instructions from the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intensify islandwide raids against organized drug networks.
The two suspects—identified as the driver and assistant of a suspicious lorry—were apprehended by officers from the Traffic Division of the Tangalle Police Station.
The vehicle was intercepted near the entrance to the Kudawella Fisheries Harbour, where a subsequent inspection led to the discovery of a staggering 65 kilograms and 720 grams of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as “ice”), along with 52 kilograms and 280 grams of heroin.
In addition to the narcotics, two satellite phones were also recovered from the suspects, raising suspicions of a larger, possibly international drug network.
Both the lorry and its occupants have been taken into custody as investigations continue. Police sources confirm that more targeted raids will follow as part of a nationwide crackdown on drug-related crime.
This operation marks one of the largest drug seizures in the region in recent times and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to dismantle narcotics networks threatening the safety and well-being of local communities.
