The Sri Lanka Navy has seized over 100 kilograms of heroin and crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as ICE) from a suspicious vessel intercepted in the deep seas off the island’s coast earlier this morning.
According to the Navy Spokesperson, six individuals aboard the vessel were taken into custody. The suspects, all residents of the Dewundara area, had reportedly set out claiming to be on a fishing expedition bound for Trincomalee.
Preliminary investigations suggest the narcotics have an estimated street value exceeding Rs. 200 million. The Navy has confirmed that the contraband and the suspects have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
Authorities believe the bust to be part of a larger crackdown on maritime drug trafficking routes, with naval intelligence continuing efforts to dismantle organized networks operating in the region.
