To enhance commuter support and ensure uninterrupted transport services, the National Transport Commission (NTC) has established a 24-hour Operations Room and Customer Care Unit.
Passengers can now access assistance at any time by calling the NTC hotline on 1955. Additionally, the public can reach out via WhatsApp at 0712 595 555 for quick support or inquiries.
For route-specific information and direct assistance, commuters are encouraged to use the dedicated lines:
- 1958 for Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus services
- 1971 for train services
The NTC stated that these initiatives are aimed at improving the overall commuter experience, especially during peak travel periods and public holidays. The 24-hour response units are equipped to provide real-time information, address passenger concerns, and ensure smooth coordination between different transport services.
With the majority of holiday travelers having already departed the capital, transport authorities report that approximately 90% of the seasonal exodus from Colombo is now complete. Despite this, enhanced transportation services remain fully operational to accommodate any remaining passengers and ensure smooth travel during the festive period.
Key terminals such as the Colombo Central Bus Station, Bastian Mawatha, Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center, and Kadawatha are continuing to offer increased services. Additional buses have been deployed to high-demand destinations across the island, including Matara, Galle, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Hatton, Monaragala, Ampara, and Embilipitiya.
Many of these routes benefit from expressway services, significantly reducing travel times and offering greater convenience to passengers. Transport officials have advised that although the bulk of travelers have already left, services will continue at full capacity over the coming days to accommodate late departures and return journeys.
