National People's Power (NPP) Member of Parliament Nihal Abeysinghe emphasized his party's commitment to justice for victims of all torture chambers across Sri Lanka, stating that the current focus is on the findings of the Batalanda Commission of Inquiry.

Speaking during a parliamentary debate held yesterday (April 10) on the Batalanda Commission report, MP Abeysinghe acknowledged that there were numerous torture chambers across the country during previous regimes. However, he pointed out that the current discussion was centered specifically on the Batalanda findings.

“There were many other torture chambers at that time besides Batalanda, but this debate is held in Parliament specifically on the Batalanda Commission report findings,” he said.

He stressed that the NPP Government, which has been in power for just four and a half months, remains committed to addressing all past human rights violations in due course.

“We still have time to talk about those other torture chambers. No matter where in Sri Lanka they were—North, South, East, or anywhere else—our Government will not hesitate to bring those responsible for the crimes to justice,” MP Abeysinghe added.

The debate on the Batalanda Commission report has reignited public discourse on accountability and transitional justice, with many calling for broader investigations into past state-sponsored violence.
