According to an official statement, a total of Rs. 12.63 billion has been allocated to support 1,737,141 eligible families across the country. The funds were deposited directly into the beneficiaries' accounts to ensure timely and efficient disbursement.
In addition to the family allowances, the Board revealed that Rs. 2.9 billion has been credited to 580,944 adults over the age of 70 within these families. This comes alongside a significant increase in the monthly allowance for elderly adults, which has risen from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 5,000 starting this month.
The Welfare Benefits Board emphasized its continued commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and ensuring financial stability for low-income households, especially senior citizens, through the Aswesuma program.
