A two-judge bench comprising Acting Chairman of the Appeals Division, Justice Mohammed Laffar Tahir, and Justice Priyantha Fernando, delivered the ruling following a motion submitted by the Attorney General.
In addition to lifting the injunction, the court directed the relevant authorities to re-accept the previously rejected nomination papers for the 18 local government bodies concerned.
The initial injunction had stalled the electoral process, drawing concern from political parties and civil society groups over delays in democratic representation at the local level.
With this ruling, the Election Commission is expected to resume preparations for the elections, marking a significant step in restoring local governance.
