A man has been injured and hospitalized following a police shooting incident that occurred early this morning at Gala Junction in Kiribathgoda.
According to police sources, the incident took place around 2:30 a.m. when a patrol unit observed a suspicious individual standing near a parked motorcycle. Officers approached the individual to carry out an inspection.
Police say the suspect attempted to flee the scene, prompting one of the officers to open fire. The man sustained injuries as a result and was subsequently admitted to the hospital for treatment. His current condition has not yet been disclosed.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The identity of the injured individual has not been officially released.
