The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an advisory warning the fishing and naval community about severe weather conditions expected over the next 24 hours in the deep sea areas of the Southwest Bay of Bengal.
According to the alert issued a low-pressure area currently situated in the central parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal is projected to move northward toward the west-central Bay. Meteorologists expect the system to gradually weaken thereafter over the central Bay of Bengal.
During this period, temporarily strong winds reaching up to 60 kmph, accompanied by heavy rainfall and rough seas, are likely to affect the region.
Authorities are urging multi-day fishing boats and other vessels operating in these deep sea areas to remain cautious. The Department of Meteorology advises all seafarers to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and to take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
