Sri Lankan Parliament has passed a resolution to appoint a committee of inquiry aimed at removing Deshabandu Tennakoon from his position as Inspector General of Police (IGP) due to allegations of misconduct and abuse of power. The resolution saw overwhelming support, with 151 Members of Parliament (MPs) voting in favor, and none against.

The decision comes after growing concerns regarding Tennakoon's actions in office, which have sparked controversy and public outcry. The committee will now be tasked with investigating the allegations in detail, determining the validity of the claims, and recommending the appropriate course of action.

This development marks a pivotal moment in Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and transparency within the police force and high-ranking government officials.

The Parliament's decisive vote reflects widespread dissatisfaction with the IGP's conduct, signaling the country's commitment to addressing issues of misconduct within its public institutions.

The inquiry committee's findings and recommendations are expected to shape future discussions on law enforcement reforms and governance in Sri Lanka.
