WHO and Ministry of Health Mark World Health Day with Global Health Focus

Dr Nalinda Jayatissa took part in the meeting held to hand over the special expert report prepared following the three-day online seminar series, jointly organized by the World Health Organization Country Office and the Ministry of Health to mark World Health Day.

At this meeting, Dr. Farooq Qureshi, Acting Head of the WHO Country Office, officially presented the report to the mnister at the Ministry of Health.

World Health Day is observed every year on April 7. This year’s theme is “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures”

Each year, the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization in Sri Lanka work together to organize various public programs for World Health Day. This year, under the selected theme, a special online seminar series was held on April 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. 

The sessions focused on maternal nutrition, maternal mental health, and overall maternal well-being. Experts from the field joined in, showing the strong commitment of both local and international communities to reduce maternal and newborn deaths.

The event was attended by several officials, including Dr. Susie Perera, Consultant Specialist at the WHO Country Office, Dr. Yasara Samarakoon, Dr. Sameera Hewage, Dr. Suveendran Tirupathi, and others.
