Sri Lanka's economic advisor to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Duminda Hulangamuwa, confirmed that vehicle taxes will not be reduced this year.

Mr.Hulangamuwa explained that the country's agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) prohibits any cuts to vehicle taxes within 2025.

He further emphasized that there would be no changes in vehicle prices, as the government adheres to the stipulations laid out by the IMF agreement. Despite this, Hulangamuwa expressed confidence in meeting the government's revenue target through vehicle taxes, with expectations of generating between Rs. 300 billion and Rs. 350 billion.

The government's decision comes as part of broader fiscal measures aimed at stabilizing the nation's economy and adhering to IMF commitments.
