The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has announced that their island-wide strike, which began at 8:00 a.m. today, will persist until 8:00 a.m. tomorrow (March 13). This decision comes despite the arrest of the suspect involved in the Anuradhapura Hospital incident.

The GMOA, representing medical officers across the country, had initiated the strike to protest against the incident on medical professionals at the Anuradhapura Hospital. While the arrest of the suspect has been confirmed, the association has stated that they will continue their strike until tomorrow morning as a demonstration of their ongoing concerns regarding the safety and security of healthcare workers.

The strike has led to significant disruptions in medical services, with patients being affected by the temporary halt in operations.

The GMOA has emphasized that their actions are aimed at drawing attention to the need for improved protection for medical staff in hospitals and ensuring a safer working environment for healthcare professionals nationwide.

Further updates on the situation are expected as the strike continues and as authorities continue their investigations into the incident.
