The Ministry of Ports and Aviation Services has announced that operations at the Colombo Port West Terminal are scheduled to commence by February 26. Deputy Minister Ruwan Kodituwakku revealed that a container ship is expected to arrive at the terminal, marking the start of its operational activities.

The West Terminal, built to enhance Sri Lanka's port capabilities, is set to handle up to 2.7 million containers annually. This expansion will significantly boost the country's shipping and logistics sector, increasing the efficiency of port operations.

In addition, plans are underway for the inauguration of operations at the Colombo Port East Terminal, slated for July 2025. With an annual container handling capacity of 3 million, the East Terminal is a key component of the ongoing modernization of the Colombo Port. It was built with funding from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, and its opening will further strengthen the port's strategic position as a major maritime hub in the region.

The completion of both terminals is expected to enhance Sri Lanka's global trade connections and improve overall port capacity, benefiting businesses and international shipping companies.
