No damage has been reported, according to Moroccan news agency, MAP.
The quake happened at 11:48 p.m. at a depth of 20 kilometers, with its epicenter near Ksar el-Kebir, which is all in the greater region of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima.
It was located at 34.954 degrees north latitude and 5.635 degrees west longitude. According to reports, the tremors were felt spanning up to 200 km south of the epicenter in Fez, Casablanca, and Rabat, as well as other northern cities like Tangier and Tetouan.
Many Moroccans left their homes out of fear, reeling from the memory of 2023, when the North African country experienced one of the deadliest earthquakes in its history.
The earthquake struck the Al Haouz region on September 8, killing at least 3,000 individuals.
It also caused a devastating damage to infrastructure in the region, especially to residents home in the small villages.
In response to the devastating earthquake, Morocco pledged more measures as part of the country's disaster management policy.
In 2023, Morocco's Interior Minister, Abdelouafi Laftit, said that 325 projects worth a total of MAD 4.72 billion ($471 million) received funding under the “Incentives for the Development of Disaster Risk Reduction and Prevention Activities” program.
