In a significant move, Sri Lanka Police have dismissed 17 officers over the past four months for involvement in drug use, including heroin and synthetic substances like ICE.

According to Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga, the terminations followed a thorough investigation by the Intelligence Units and Special Investigations Unit, which identified several officers suspected of drug consumption. Medical tests were conducted, and the findings were forwarded to the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board.

The dismissed officers have been removed from service following the confirmation of the test results. SSP Manathunga also confirmed that investigations into other officers suspected of similar drug-related offenses are still underway, with actions to be taken based on the results of their medical tests.

Additionally, the Acting Inspector General of Police has directed that strict measures be taken against senior officers implicated in the ongoing investigations.
