The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has confirmed that the container congestion at the port has been largely resolved, although it has not been completely eradicated. According to an official from SLPA, the situation has significantly improved, leading to a reduction in the previous disruptions to port operations.

Irshad Niyaz, Secretary of the Lanka Wharf Services Association, shared on February 3 that the congestion issue was addressed through a focused, intensive four-day operation conducted around the clock. The operation involved collaboration from multiple stakeholders to ensure the efficient clearing of containers and easing of port traffic.

Niyaz expressed gratitude to all parties involved, including President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, for their support in resolving the congestion. He also pointed out that container congestion had been a longstanding issue, predating the current administration, and had resulted in considerable financial losses for Sri Lanka due to delays in port operations.

While the congestion issue has improved, SLPA officials continue to monitor the situation to prevent future backlogs and ensure smooth operations at the port.
