The Sri Lanka Police have denied reports suggesting that they enforce road closures to facilitate the movement of VIP convoys. In response to a viral video showing a road in Colombo being closed for such purposes, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic and Road Safety, Indika Hapugoda, addressed the matter in a statement to the media.
DIG Hapugoda clarified that the incident depicted in the video is not recent, and is believed to have occurred several years ago. He assured that the police do not block roads to allow the passage of VIP vehicles. "This is not a recent incident, and we are aware of the footage," he said.
The statement aimed to clarify the ongoing concerns about road closures, and to emphasize that such actions are not part of current traffic management protocols.
