In a significant move, President Dissanayake, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, has officially lifted the temporary suspension on vehicle imports to Sri Lanka.
This decision was formalized through the publication of an Extraordinary Gazette notification titled "Imports and Exports (Control) Regulations No. 02 of 2025."
The Gazette, issued on February 1, 2025, ends the suspension that had been in place for various vehicle categories. It now allows the importation of public passenger transport vehicles, special purpose vehicles, commercial or goods transport vehicles, personal use vehicles, and non-motorized goods.
This regulation is expected to ease the vehicle supply constraints in Sri Lanka, benefiting both individual consumers and businesses relying on vehicle imports. The move marks a significant step in the country's recovery and economic stabilization efforts.
