Sri Lanka has achieved a remarkable milestone in its tourism sector, recording $3.17 billion in revenue for 2024. This represents a significant 53.2% increase compared to the previous year, where the country earned $2.07 billion in tourism revenue, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

In 2024, Sri Lanka welcomed over two million international tourists, marking a 38.1% rise in arrivals compared to 2023. The surge in both revenue and tourist numbers signals a robust recovery for the island nation’s tourism industry, which had been impacted in recent years.

Looking ahead, the Sri Lankan government is setting ambitious targets for 2025. Tourism officials are aiming to attract 3 million visitors, with a goal of reaching $5 billion in tourism revenue. These efforts come as part of the broader strategy to revive and expand Sri Lanka’s tourism sector in the post-pandemic era.

Tourism has long been a key pillar of Sri Lanka’s economy, and the current growth reflects both global travel trends and the island's appeal as a prime travel destination.
