The Vehicle Importers Association of Sri Lanka has issued a warning that import taxes on vehicles, currently around 300%, may rise further in the near future. In some cases, luxury vehicles could face tax rates as high as 600%.
Prasad Manage, Chairman of the Association, pointed out that additional taxes, such as VAT, are contributing to the rising vehicle prices. Despite these anticipated increases, Manage reassured the public that market prices for vehicles are expected to rise only slightly.
He urged citizens not to panic, advising them to wait for vehicles to arrive in the country before making any purchasing decisions. The Association remains hopeful that the market will stabilize as more vehicles come in.
