Govt Focuses on Renewable Energy to Address High Energy Costs
In a recent meeting with investors at the Ministry of Energy on December 26, 2024, Jayakody highlighted the government's efforts to promote renewable energy as a key solution to the issue.
"We are a country with the highest energy costs in the region, and the new government's goal is to change that situation," said the Minister.
He emphasized the importance of providing energy at a reasonable price, noting that this is critical for the nation's development. The Minister also underscored the government's focus on renewable energy, particularly in attracting private sector investments in energy generation, and ensuring a fair, win-win approach for both the government and investors.
During the meeting, participants discussed the progress of medium and large-scale renewable energy projects under the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority. These projects are expected to add over 500 megawatts of capacity to the national power grid within the next two years, with significant potential for further growth.
Minister Jayakody instructed government officials to collaborate with relevant institutions to resolve any challenges and to make necessary policy decisions quickly, ensuring the swift implementation of renewable energy projects.
