In a recent discussion with senior officials from institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive educational transformation in Sri Lanka.

She highlighted that the people are demanding more than just educational reforms, but a deep, systemic change to close the gap between schools across the country.

The meeting included representatives from the Asian Teacher Development Center, the National Education Commission, and the Non-Governmental Higher Education Sector. Dr. Amarasuriya pointed out that it is a national responsibility to address the disparities between schools, which must go beyond merely fulfilling a job description. She underscored the importance of a holistic approach to education that not only bridges the educational divide but also aligns with modern technological advancements and global needs.

The Prime Minister also called for a robust national education management system that can support future generations in adapting to an ever-evolving technological world. This, she noted, should include a comprehensive strategy for regulating private degree institutions to protect students from fraudulent schemes and ensure quality education across the non-state higher education sector.

Dr. Amarasuriya stressed the government's commitment to a transformative educational agenda that extends beyond the historical reforms introduced by C.W.W. Kannangara, ensuring that every student in Sri Lanka has access to high-quality education suited for the demands of the future.
