President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today that Sri Lanka will hold the Local Government Elections before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in 2025. In addition, he confirmed that Provincial Council elections will also take place within the same year.

During his visit to Kandy, President Dissanayake assured the public that preparations for both elections are underway and that the government is committed to holding them as scheduled.

The announcement comes as a key development in the country's political landscape, following months of uncertainty regarding the timing of these elections. The Local Government Elections, which are typically held every few years, have been highly anticipated by many citizens, while the Provincial Council elections are also seen as crucial for governance at the regional level.

Details regarding the exact dates for both elections will be released by the Election Commission in the coming months.
