The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has announced that nearly 1.9 million tourists have visited the country so far in 2024.

SLTDA Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam reported that over 90,000 tourists have arrived in December alone. He expressed optimism that an additional 250,000 visitors would arrive by the end of the month, helping the country achieve a target of 2.2 million tourist arrivals for the year.

If this target is met, it would be the first time since 2018 that Sri Lanka surpasses the two-million tourist milestone, marking a significant recovery for the tourism sector.
