Sri Lanka Customs is on track to achieve a historic revenue milestone, with Director General Sarath Nonis announcing that the department is poised to earn 1.5 trillion rupees by the end of this year. This marks the first time in the nation's history that Customs revenue is set to reach such a significant figure.

As of yesterday, Sri Lanka Customs had already generated 1.4 trillion rupees, making significant progress toward the target of 1.53 trillion rupees. The Director General expressed confidence that the remaining revenue goal will be met in the final days of the year, with plans in place to maximize the department’s efforts.

In his remarks to Independent Television, Nonis emphasized that vehicle imports, which contribute approximately 30% of Customs revenue, remain a key factor in reaching the target. While there are ongoing restrictions on vehicle imports, the Director General assured that these challenges would not impede the department's ability to meet its goal.

Mr.Nonis also highlighted the role of technological innovation and increased transparency as critical drivers of the department's record performance this year. He noted that improvements in these areas had helped streamline operations and boost revenue collection efficiency.

With these efforts, Sri Lanka Customs is poised to close the year with one of the highest revenue performances in its history.
