Sri Lanka Customs to Launch New Digital Applications
Sri Lanka Customs is set to introduce several new digital applications aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in its operations.
Customs Spokesman Seevali Arukgoda announced the upcoming initiatives on Thursday, December 5, highlighting the positive impact these systems will have on public services.
Among the key developments is a Cargo Tracking Application which will allow traders and stakeholders to monitor the cargo clearance process remotely. This will provide real-time updates and streamline the overall cargo handling system, making it more convenient for all involved.
In addition, Customs will introduce a Motor Vehicle Import Verification System, addressing concerns around the legality of imported vehicles. Arukgoda explained that this system will allow individuals to verify the importation status of a vehicle simply by providing its chassis number, reducing uncertainty and enhancing trust in the vehicle purchasing process.
Furthermore, Customs will roll out an Electronic Bidding (E-Bidding) System in January 2025, designed to overhaul the existing bidding process. The new system will ensure a safer, more efficient, and transparent bidding experience, free from political interference. This will allow anyone, anywhere in the world, to participate in the bidding process.
These new systems are part of Sri Lanka Customs’ ongoing efforts to modernize its services and offer more accessible, transparent, and efficient processes to the public.
