Gov warns of False LTTE Propaganda on Social Media
Speaking in Parliament today (December 4), the minister stated that this deliberate misinformation campaign is aimed at creating division and conflict between the country’s North and South. He accused a specific political party of orchestrating the campaign, adding that investigations have confirmed their involvement.
Minister Wijepala also revealed that several arrests have been made. On November 29, a suspect from Baddegama was arrested and remanded until December 17 for participating in this activity. Another suspect from Maradana, who shared foreign photographs claiming they were from Jaffna, was arrested and later released on bail. A third suspect from Boralesgamuwa remains in custody.
The minister further mentioned that two activists have been arrested and are being investigated for their alleged connections to the campaign. He emphasized the manipulative intent behind such actions, urging vigilance against attempts to spread false narratives.
