Over 442,000 People Affected by Severe Weather Conditions

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported that the death toll from adverse weather in Sri Lanka has increased to 14 as of noon today.

The fatalities include nine from the Ampara District, two from Puttalam, and one each from Badulla, Trincomalee, and Vavuniya Districts. 

Additionally, two people remain missing in the Ampara District, while 20 others have sustained injuries from various disaster-related incidents.

According to the DMC, 442,185 individuals from 132,289 families across 24 districts have been severely affected by the weather. Currently, 38,594 people from 12,334 families are housed in 341 safety shelters, while 115,628 individuals from 45,415 families have sought refuge in the homes of relatives.

The DMC continues to monitor and provide support to those impacted by the ongoing weather conditions.
