Ten sluice gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir have been opened following continuous heavy rainfall, releasing approximately 11,500 cubic meters of water per second into the Kala Oya, according to officials. The Anuradhapura District has been significantly impacted by adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, steps have been taken to close the sluice gates of the Angamuwa Reservoir, while the Wimalasurendra Reservoir in Nortonbridge continues to release water due to intermittent showers and heavy rainfall in the western slopes of the Central Highlands.

The Castlereigh and Maussakele reservoirs are nearing overflow levels because of persistent rain in their catchment areas.

As a result, the Wimalasurendra, Canyon, Laxapana, New Laxapana, and Polpitiya Hydro Power Stations are operating at full capacity to generate electricity, confirmed engineers overseeing these facilities.

In Nachchaduwa Tank, all sluice gates are now open, releasing about 2,140 cubic meters of water per second into the Malwathu Oya. Residents have been urged to remain cautious in low-lying areas along the Malwathu Oya.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the rainfall persists, ensuring public safety in affected regions.
