President's Counsel and Senior Additional Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne has been officially appointed as the new Solicitor General of Sri Lanka.

Mr.Dayaratne, a highly experienced legal professional, takes on this prestigious role following a distinguished career in the country’s legal and regulatory sectors.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Dayaratne served as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Sri Lanka from January 2020 to January 2023. His leadership at the SEC was marked by significant reforms aimed at strengthening the country's capital markets and enhancing investor confidence.

As the Solicitor General, Dayaratne will play a key role in representing the government in legal matters, providing legal advice to the state, and overseeing the work of the Attorney General's Department.

His appointment has been welcomed by the legal community, with many expressing confidence in his ability to uphold the law and contribute to the country’s legal framework during this critical time.
