The Colombo Magistrate's Court has recalled the arrest warrant issued against Jaffna District Independent MP Archchuna Ramanathan.
The warrant was initially issued after the parliamentarian failed to appear in court regarding an incident involving an alleged assault after causing a traffic accident.
The order to withdraw the warrant was made after MP Ramanathan appeared before the court through his attorney.
Previously, on November 26, Colombo Additional Magistrate issued the warrant through the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Jaffna. The case relates to a 2021 traffic accident on Baseline Road, Colombo, where the MP is accused of assaulting an individual involved in the collision.
A different incident, On November 21, in the inaugural session of Parliament, a video circulated on social media showing the independent MP refusing to leave the Leader of the Opposition's seat, despite repeated instructions from parliamentary staff. This incident, along with remarks posted by the MP on his social media accounts, has led to widespread public criticism.
