The Department of Agrarian Development has successfully distributed the government's fertilizer subsidy to 228,866 farmers across the country.
The subsidy, totaling 50,000 rupees per farmer, was given in two installments of 25,000 rupees each. The funds were directly deposited into the farmers' bank accounts, Commissioner General of the Department of Agrarian Development Rohana Rajapaksa said.
To date, the government has allocated a total of 4.3 billion rupees for the fertilizer subsidy initiative. Additionally, the Commissioner General announced that a further 1.776 billion rupees were expected to be received from the Treasury yesterday (November 27) to further support the Department of Agricultural Services.
