The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that a revision of electricity tariffs is unlikely to happen this year.

This delay is due to the Ceylon Electricity Board's (CEB) repeated requests for more time to submit a new tariff revision proposal. The latest request, submitted formally yesterday (November 22), seeks an additional two weeks for preparation.

The CEB had initially been given until November 22 to submit its revised plan after the PUCSL found the earlier proposed tariff reductions insufficient. The PUCSL had suggested that greater reductions were possible given current conditions.

Therefore, the CEB was granted a two-week period starting from November 8 to develop a new proposal.

With the new proposal now postponed, the PUCSL indicated that a tariff revision is unlikely to be implemented before the end of the year.
