Former Minister Lohan Ratwatte has been further remanded until December 2, while his wife, Shashi Prabha Ratwatte, will remain in custody until November 22, following their appearance at the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court today (November 18).

The couple was arrested over allegations of using a luxury car that was illegally imported and assembled in Sri Lanka and previously been remanded in custody until today (November 18). Police discovered the vehicle without number plates during an inspection at a three-story house in Mirihana, reportedly owned by Shashi Prabha Ratwatte.

During the investigation, the Ratwattes claimed the house belonged to his mother-in-law and that the car had been brought there weeks earlier by Ratwatte’s private secretary, who was recently found dead with gunshot wounds in Katugastota, Kandy.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal has scheduled the hearing of a petition filed by Lohan Ratwatte seeking bail for November 19. The court has directed the petitioning party to notify the respondents, including the Inspector General of Police, to present their facts.
