President Anura Kumara Dissanayake declared that the recent election has marked the end of divisive politics in Sri Lanka, emphasizing a shift towards unity across the nation.

Speaking after appointing the new Cabinet today (November 18), the President emphasized the duties and responsibilities of the Cabinet ministers and how they should work as a team to accomplish national interests. He pledged the government would never misuse the power which people given to them with the trust to rebuild Sri Lanka.

The president highlighted the historical divisions that shaped Sri Lankan politics. “The political culture in Sri Lanka has long been defined by efforts to pit the North against the South and vice versa,” he said. “However, this election has shown that divisive politics no longer hold sway. It has successfully brought the aspirations of all people to the centre.”

The President thanked all voters who supported the new government, acknowledging the critical role of Sri Lankan expatriates and young social media activists in shaping the outcome of the election.

“This victory reflects the collective will of the people, transcending regional and ethnic differences,” he added.
