Vijitha Herath was officially sworn in as Sri Lanka's new Cabinet Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tourism, and Foreign Employment in a ceremony held today at the Presidential Secretariat.

President presided over the swearing-in, marking a significant moment in Herath's political career as he takes on these crucial portfolios.

In his new role, Herath will oversee Sri Lanka’s foreign diplomatic relations, manage the country’s tourism sector, and address the needs of Sri Lankan workers abroad. These areas have been central to the nation’s economic recovery and development, with foreign employment and tourism being major contributors to national income.

Herath, a member of brings with him a wealth of experience in both diplomacy and public service. His appointment is expected to strengthen Sri Lanka's foreign ties and foster international cooperation in the face of global economic challenges.

In his inaugural speech, Herath pledged to work tirelessly to improve Sri Lanka’s international standing and to create opportunities for Sri Lankans working overseas. 

He also emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism, aiming to boost the sector while preserving Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
