The International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, led by Senior Mission Chief Peter Breuer, began key meetings in Sri Lanka today (November 18) with officials from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

The team, which arrived yesterday, will also meet with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and key ministers of the newly formed government to discuss the country's economic recovery program.

The IMF representatives will hold a press conference following their discussions to provide updates on the third review of Sri Lanka’s economic reform program under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).

Successful completion of the review could result in the release of the next tranche of the USD 2.9 billion bailout package approved by the IMF to assist Sri Lanka in recovering from its economic crisis.

So far, the IMF has disbursed over USD 1 billion, including tranches of USD 333 million in 21 March 2023, USD 337 million in 13 December 2023, and another USD 337 million in 13 June 2024. The upcoming tranche is expected to further aid the country’s recovery efforts.
