The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has announced the nomination of Namal Rajapaksa as a Member of Parliament through its National List. SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam shared the decision during a press briefing held this morning (November 16).

In the 2024 General Election held on November 14, the SLPP secured just three seats, including one bonus seat from the National List. The party received 350,429 votes (3.15%), a sharp decline from its previous position as the largest party in Parliament from 2020 to 2024.

Namal Rajapaksa, who also contested in the 2024 Presidential Election two months ago, garnered 342,781 votes nationwide, amounting to 2.57% of the total votes.

In addition to the National List seat, Chanaka Sampath, with 8,447 preferential votes in the Galle District, and former State Minister D.V. Chanaka, with 16,546 preferential votes in the Hambantota District, are the only SLPP candidates to secure parliamentary seats in the 10th Parliament.
