By 10 AM, the National People's Power (NPP) has taken a strong lead in Sri Lanka's general election, securing 61.73% of the vote, which amounts to 6,842,223 votes. The party has won 107 seats and needs just 6 more to reach the majority threshold.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has garnered 1,966,875 votes, or 17.74%, and has secured 28 seats so far. However, the SJB still requires 85 more seats to achieve a majority in Parliament.
The New Democratic Front (NDF) has received 493,359 votes, accounting for 4.45%, and has won 3 seats. Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has 350,287 votes, or 3.16%, with 2 seats.
Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) has secured 252,548 votes, or 2.28%, and won 6 seats.
Sarvajana Balaya (SB) has earned 177,954 votes, representing 1.61%, but has not secured any seats yet.
The United Democratic Voice (UDV) has received 83,488 votes, or 0.75%, and has not won any seats.
The NPP’s strong lead raises expectations for a decisive outcome as the general election progresses.
