Avoid releasing unofficial results of parliamentary elections
The Director General of Government Information, H.S.K., has issued an official directive to all electronic and print media organizations, as well as internet websites and social media administrators, urging strict adherence to the media norms outlined in the Gazette issued by the Election Commission on September 25, 2024.
In a statement made by Mr. J. Bandara, the Director General emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of election reporting. The directive highlights that unofficial results should not be disseminated or speculated upon until the Election Commission formally announces the official results.
This precaution aims to ensure accurate, reliable, and impartial information reaches the public, avoiding any confusion or misinformation during the critical post-election period.
Media outlets are encouraged to closely follow these guidelines to maintain transparency and public trust throughout the election process.
The Election Commission has also reiterated its commitment to providing timely and official results as soon as all necessary verifications are complete.
