Voter turnout for the 2024 General Election has already exceeded 50 percent in several districts by 1:00 p.m. today, according to reports from the Election Commission.

As of the latest update, Nuwara Eliya leads with a turnout of 55%, followed closely by Ratnapura and Badulla, both recording 50%. Other districts also saw promising participation, with Mannar reaching 48%, and Kegalle at 48%. 

Meanwhile, several other districts have reported moderate turnout figures, including Matara at 46%, and Monaragala at 44%. In contrast, districts such as Kandy, Jaffna, and Kurunegala have reported lower turnouts, with Kandy and Jaffna each at 36%, and Kurunegala lagging behind at 30%.

The Election Commission is continuing to monitor the turnout closely and expects increased participation throughout the day as polling hours continue.

Election officials encourage all eligible voters to cast their ballots, with polls set to close later this evening.
