In preparation for the upcoming general elections the Sri Lanka Police have set up a Special Operations Center to oversee national security.
This center will coordinate efforts with the Army, Navy, Air Force, Special Task Force, and Civil Defense Force. Over 3,000 officers will be deployed across the country, including 602 for mobile patrols, to ensure a secure election process. Surveillance will be enhanced with drones, particularly around the 54 counting centers, where gatherings will be prohibited.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nihal Thalduwa confirmed that authorities are closely monitoring social media for election-related content. In addition to standard patrols, riot control teams and personnel for roadblocks will be on standby.
Hotlines for reporting election-related issues have been made available: 0112 027 149, 0112 013 244, and 0112 242 11 11. This comprehensive security plan is aimed at ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the elections.
