The Ministry of Labor in Sri Lanka has appointed a committee to investigate the selection process of labor welfare officers for the country's diplomatic missions abroad. This decision follows multiple complaints from the public about past appointments.

According to the Ministry, the selection process for these officers, who serve in various locations including the Middle East, Japan, and South Korea, was not conducted transparently. Labor welfare officers play an essential role in supporting Sri Lankan workers facing issues abroad, making fair and transparent selection crucial.

The Ministry has stated that irregularities were found in these appointments and that appropriate action will be taken once the investigation is complete. A senior official confirmed that further measures will be decided based on the committee’s findings.
