The website of Sri Lanka's Meteorological Department is currently being restored following a cyber attack that disrupted its services earlier this month. The attack was reported on November 1, and the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SL CERT), the country's primary body for managing cyber security incidents, is leading the recovery efforts.

Charuka Damunopola, Senior Information Officer at SL CERT, stated that the attack had caused noticeable changes on the official website of the Meteorological Department. After preliminary investigations, it was confirmed that no data was accessed or stolen by external parties. However, SL CERT continues to assess the situation and has taken necessary measures to restore the website's full functionality and security.

Damunopola also reassured the public that while the incident is still under investigation, initial findings suggest that the website's core data and systems have not been compromised. SL CERT is closely monitoring the situation and working to prevent further disruptions to the department's services. The restoration efforts are ongoing, and additional inquiries will determine the full extent of the attack.
